A recovery nap after inadequate nighttime sleep provides partial but meaningful restoration. A 90-minute nap including slow-wave sleep provides deeper recovery including physical restoration, and is more appropriate when significant physical fatigue accompanies the sleep restriction.

If recovery naps become a daily necessity (you regularly need them to function), this indicates your baseline nighttime sleep is insufficient -- a chronic sleep debt accumulation problem that requires addressing the nighttime sleep rather than bridging with naps indefinitely.
